Sustainable Development of Urban Regions

The Case of South-East Asia

The goal of the workshop is to identify those urban challenges where cities and urban stakeholders are interested in working together with science and research. Subsequently, implications for demand-driven BMBF activities in the field of sustainable urban development in international context are to be derived. These activities will link up with BMBF’s Framework Program Research for Sustainable Development and Germany’s strategic research and innovation agenda "City of the Future".

Leading Questions for the Workshop

  • What is the most urgent field of action for sustainable urban development in your city?
  • What obstacles appear on the path towards a sustainable city?
  • In which field do known solutions, technologies or planning instruments not adequately respond to immediate urban needs? What is missing? Where could research step in?
  • To what extent do aspects of climate change, energy-or resource-efficiency play a role in the planning processes and measures taken in your city?
