The proportion of the world’s population living in cities is already over 50 percent and is set to grow further still. By 2050, global population will reach 9 billion of which more than two thirds will be living in cities. Such a high level of urbanization creates pressing challenges in a variety of areas, such as energy supply, the environment and waste management – challenges that call for intelligent and creative solutions. With its strong base of innovative companies and research institutes in the new technology sector, Germany is an incubator of groundbreaking solutions for the cities of the future. In its High-Tech Strategy 2020, the German government sees a future CO2-neutral and energy-efficient city as a core target. German experts can thus share great expertise to combine ecological sustainability and economic prosperity.
To further strengthen and enlarge sustainable relations and to establish a forum where solutions for mastering the strategic and technological challenges arising from this rapid urbanization can be found, the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with Deutsche Messe will host a Arab-German conference in the in the framework of the congress trade fair Metropolitan Solutions.
